Week 3 – Continuing with Practice and Reflection

MEETING WITH AIM

These are just ramblings…

I enjoyed meeting with Aim on Friday. Aim is working on their Phd at Aberystwyth University and also works for the Centre of Material Thinking. It was fascinating talking to her about my work, particularly my photography work as I feel that there is less of a deeper connection to this work. They were talking about how sometimes the meaning and depth is found being lost and transported through the image and being taken to another place !

Deeper meaning if your taking yourself to another place and location !

River time is different

Reclamation from nature – bike is from nature originally – steel, aluminium, foam for the saddle is man made, inspiration comes from like a sea sponge/ natural so all links back

Timothy Morton Being Ecological – something is more than a sum of its parts

Will it be nicer to display my objects ? –

We listened to Van Morrison –

And I will stroll the merry way
And jump the hedges first
And I will drink the clear
Clean water for to quench my thirst
And I shall watch the ferry-boats
And they’ll get high
On a bluer ocean
Against tomorrow’s sky
And I will never grow so old again
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing

And I shall drive my chariot
Down your streets and cry
‘Hey, it’s me, I’m dynamite
And I don’t know why’
And you shall take me strongly
In your arms again
And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
My, my, my, my, my sweet thing

And I will raise my hand up
Into the night time sky
And count the stars
That’s shining in your eye
Just to dig it all an’ not to wonder
That’s just fine
And I’ll be satisfied
Not to read in between the lines
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
And I will never, ever, ever, ever
Grow so old again

Oh sugar baby, sweet thing
Sugar-baby with your champagne eyes
And your saint-like smile

MIGUEL ROTHSCHILD

I have been looking at artists who suspend their work one of the interesting ones was Miguel who has suspended work from the ceiling. In particular the most notable work is perhaps their works on the ocean with rolling peaks. I think one of the most interesting parts of this project is the fact that you can walk around and underneath artwork.

TUTORIAL

Additional Notes

Watching the elephant… The main takeaway is the filming of a continuously moving object. Maybe I can incorporate this into my project.

  1. some good research here, opening up your possibilities, extending your vocabulary. I sense there is a process of simultaneously broadening and distilling? you are gathering more ideas while zoning in on simpler possibilities, realising a little is enough if underpinned by deeper meaning and theory and research, mining down rather than out. I look forward to seeing the last project room experimentation.
